Esther 6 – God at Work

Religion

The sequence of events aligned perfectly as the story unfolded. Esther held her first banquet but did not reveal her request. That very night, the king couldn’t sleep and asked to review the records. His tired eyes happened to fall upon the story of Mordecai saving his life. The king then sought counsel on how to honor Mordecai, and Haman was coincidently waiting in the hallway. In response to the king, Haman unknowingly mastered a perfect plan of honor, but it was not for himself as presumed; it was for his enemy Mordecai! Could anyone write a better script? No, it must be God. It was a story of perfect timing with characters carefully placed in the right place at exactly the right moment.

Just as Mordecai’s identity was hidden when the king asked Haman for advice, God’s identity is not mentioned in the book of Esther. But God is at work throughout this story just as He is at work with our stories. Where do you see God working in your life this week?

“The king said, ‘Who is in the court?’ Now Haman had just entered the outer court of the king’s palace to speak to the king about having Mordecai hanged on the gallows that he had prepared for him. So the king’s servants told him, ‘Haman is there, standing in the court.’ The king said, ‘Let him come in.’” (Esther 6:4-5)
