The Word or the World? What's Your Worldview?

How we view the world matters. Our worldview shapes our feelings, beliefs, decisions, and even our most intimate relationships. When I think of the "Word" versus the "World," that single letter “l” makes a world of difference. Two visions immediately come to mind and often are at odds with each other. One offers a heavenly lens through God’s eyes, while the other reflects the earthly perspective we see everywhere we turn.
So, how do you know which lens you are actually living through? Even if you identify as a Christian, are you truly living with a biblical worldview? In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing content to help you navigate that question.
But first, let’s look at a foundational Scripture:
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2 NIV)
Breaking the Mold
God’s Word tells us not to “conform” to the pattern of this world. The original Greek conveys the idea of being molded into a similar “outward form.” Today, this "mold" is often crafted by what our culture values: luxury, wealth, physical beauty, fame, success, and the relentless pursuit of social media influence. The “pattern of our world” is everything trending on our screens and promoted by the masses.
A Better Way
But there is another way. Instead of chasing what the world promotes, we are called to be “transformed by the renewing of our minds.”
Transformation is a big word—and an even longer process. The Greek term metamorphoó should sound familiar; it’s where we get the word metamorphosis. Like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly, this change doesn't happen overnight. It’s a life-altering shift, especially when our minds have been conditioned for years by culture, family upbringing, and influences around us.
This is why being in God’s Word daily is essential. God speaks through the pages of the Bible to enlighten us and empower us to walk in His ways. When we prioritize His voice over the noise of the world, renewal follows.
The Daily Choice
The Word or the world? You make that decision every single day, whether you realize it or not.
Choose God’s Word, and a new life will follow.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV)
